Hey, I know this may be late, but information is still interesting. This article written by Neil Miller spills about the movie’s newly hired writer:

Variety is reporting that Unique Features and Constantin Films have signed writer Jessica Postigo, writer of the hostage drama Operation Checkmate, to adapt the first three novels in the four-book series The Mortal Instruments, from author Cassandra Clare.

You can check out Jessica’s IMDB Page for some information. Right now, she looks promising. I can’t wait for the movies already!

Variety posted an article about the movie’s current position. There has been determined a screenwriter and executive producer for the production and both are on-board for creating the film soon!

Here’s the article:

Unique Features partners Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne will team with Constantin Film on “The Mortal Instruments,” an adaptation of the Cassandra Clare fantasy book trilogy.

The partners have set Jessica Postigo (”Operation Checkmate”) to write the script that is based on the novels “City of Bones,” “City of Ashes” and “City of Glass.” Unique optioned the bestsellers a few months back (Daily Variety, June 17).

Story revolves around teenager Clary Fray’s search for her missing mother, which leads her to a city filled with mysterious fairies, raucous warlocks, vampires and other demons.

“Cassandra Clare has created a truly unique, imaginative and universally appealing world seen through the eyes of a 16-year-old girl,” said Robert Kulzer, who will produce for Constantin.

Constantin’s Martin Moszkowicz will be exec producer.

Website Update
There’s been slow news in TMI world, but I will try and update as I hear them. Also, the website will be undergoing a revamp (no pun intended) soon with new content and possibly new layout! Stay tuned. I am also looking for some new affiliates to get this website back in traffic once again (and not to mention meet some new webmaster/webmistress people who love TMI as much as I do!).

Publishers Weekly’s Coverage of Saturday’s Event

An article about Cassandra Clare’s announcements at New York City’s Bryant Park was posted by Publishers Weekly today. It covers the new book, City of Fallen Angels, the new TMI movies that are in the works and more about Clare’s influences and inspirations for her novels. Here’s an excerpt:

Clare’s other big disclosure for fans was that her books will be adapted for the big screen. The film endeavor is in the most preliminary of stages, she said: rights have been sold to the same producers who adapted The Lord of the Rings. Though Clare will not serve as screenwriter, and the contract does not require that she supervise the interpretation of her books into film, she said she trusts that the material is in good hands.

NYC-Party-2009-Wrapup

Cassie has updated her LiveJournal *officially* releasing the big announcements she made yesterday at her TMI Party in New York City.

Summary of Announcements (she surprised us with 3!)
1. Fourth MI Book: City of Fallen Angels. Coming March 2011.
2. The MI books will be made into a Movie Series by Unique Features.
3. MI book into Graphic novels by Th3rd World Studios. Read Press Release

Here’s the tidbit about the movie for those few skeptics:

The film rights to The Mortal Instruments have been optioned by Unique Features. This is a film production company set up by former founders and co-presidents of New Line Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne, who oversaw the production of the Lord of the Rings movies — probably my favorite fantasy movies of all time. They’re very dedicated to fantasy and they understand it, and I definitely trust them with the story of the Mortal Instruments.

NYC-Party-2009

News Updates/Announcements:

1. City of Fallen Angels March 2011. Fourth The Mortal Instruments Book! Reason: Simon spinoff series she was working on didn’t push through to being a Graphic Novel.

Simon’s Book (a.k.a. The Daylighter Book) is just one book, not a series. – Summary: Simon is having trouble adjusting and having two girlfriends (so he didn’t choose one!). He leaves town. Finds bad things. – Clary and Jace will be in the book. – The Mark of Cain will play a larger role for Simon. – Luke and Jocelyn are getting married in Simon’s Book. It will be a very small wedding. And Jocelyn doesn’t want Clary to be a Shadowhunter. – Sebastian’s body was never found, but he’s not the villain in Simon’s Book. – Clary is in Shadowhunter training but is really not good at it.

*City of Fallen Angels is Simon’s book. (unconfirmed)

2. All three TMI books will be adapted into graphic novels by Third World Studios. No release date yet. Read Article.

3. THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS MOVIE TRILOGY – screenwriter and funding has been confirmed, no casting yet. – Same producers of Lord of the Rings (wow, it’s destined for greatness already!)

4. The Infernal Devices facts – Magnus Bane fans will love to hear that he is in featured in the Clockwork Series as “a little less experienced and a bit of a screw up.” – Ancestors of TMI characters are in TID. – More about Magnus in TID.
